Sarah Khan-Bashir - Partner - General Civil Litigation & family law
Sarah Khan-Bashir – A solicitor, highly committed to putting something back into the community. Sarah established Shire Solicitors in 2007. The practice specialises in defendant and claimant civil litigation as well as Wills and Probate, Family Law and Immigration.
After qualifying as a solicitor, Sarah joined the Office of the Force Solicitor for West Yorkshire Police for 7 years. One of the many initiatives she was involved with was the creation of a protocol to be followed by the courts and partner authorities in order to case manage civil applications brought by the police to the magistrates’ courts. This model has been adopted by several police forces. Sarah has also trained officers from the NCIS in cultural awareness programs and provided specific training in relation to the Muslim communities in West Yorkshire.
As Patron of the Minorities Police Liaison Committee, in Bradford, she acted as Chairwoman of a sub-group of the committee looking specifically at the issue of forced marriages. This group successfully ran a city-wide seminar on the subject. Sarah is currently the Chair of the Yorkshire Region and on the National Advisory Board of Mosaic a Princes' Trust Charity She is also a founding trustee on the board of the Bradford Police Museum which endeavours to highlight legal history of the Bradford Police Service.
Sarah was nominated for a Lloyds TSB Jewel award and was one of the finalists for the Professional Excellence Award. She was also a Woman in Business finalist in the Bradford Business awards.
Sarah is married with three daughters and lives in Bradford West Yorkshire. She was awarded the Eleanor Roosevelt Award by Brunel University for her services to Law and in 2014 received an MBE from the Queen for services to charity.
Javaid Iqbal - head of Family law
Javaid has vast experience in practicing all areas of family law matters, including divorces, ancillary relief, children matters and non molestation orders. Javaid understands the client's situation instantly and presents the best options to achieve the result the client desires. He is a practical person who understands that there can be more than one way to resolve any situation; this is particularly true where children are involved. Javaid has a client base that covers the UK and also from abroad including Spain, Morocco, Dubai and Kuwait.
Javaid is a keen advocate and does his own advocacy where possible thus providing much needed continuity for his clients.
He also advises in private children matters involving all aspects of child arrangements orders, emergency orders and leave to remove children permanently from the UK.
Javaid believes in getting to know his clients as he believes this leads to a greater understanding and trust between them. This one to one relationship is the reason Javaid has a good success rate in relation to getting the best solution for his clients.
